Student damage barred

Dear Sir

The Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) today confirmed (in a 49-page judgment) that the five appellants against an interdict that was made a final order of the court on 11 May 2016 are interdicted from erecting unauthorised structures on the University of Cape Town campus; damaging any of UCT’s premises; participating in or inciting others to participate in any unlawful conduct or unlawful protest action on any of UCT’s premises; or inciting violence. The order by Judge Allie stands, and the respondents are jointly and severally liable to pay the costs of the order granted by Judge Allie. As to the costs related to the SCA appeal each party is to pay his or her own costs.
